The SheCAN! Diverse-Is-She team is proud to present Monthly Healing Chronicles. A discussion series created to obliterate racism, heal as a country, mature as a nation, level up as humans and build a better world for all. Created by Monda Webb, founder of Monda Media LLC. She uses her knowledge and experience in media productions to provide critical insights regarding Diversity and Inclusion. Monda is a frequent contributor to Little Know Stories production company, founded to tell the little known stories hidden in the crevices of history's pages, primarily from a woman's lens.
Join us for this months Healing Chronicle, a guided discussion of the poem by Paul Lawrence Dunbar, We Wear the Mask . We will discuss the significance of what it means to wear the mask from a black persons perspective, and what we can do to mitigate distrust among the races.
We wear the mask that grins and lies
It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes-
This debt we pay to human guile;
With torn and bleeding hearts we smile,
And mouth with myriad subtleties.
Why should the world be over-wise,
In counting all our tears and sighs?
Nay, let them only see us, while
We wear the mask .
We smile, but, O great Christ, our cries
To thee from tortured souls arise.
We sing, but oh the clay is vile
Beneath our feet, and long the mile;
But let the world dream otherwise,
We wear the mask!
